Diligent Office Hands

Hint of the Week

Don't pile it - shift it!

Often in the work place, we find ourselves being swamped with paperwork. We may discover that before too long we are surrounded by mounds of paper, sometimes to the extent that the piles start to grow on the floor around the desk as well as on the desk surface.  Ever been there?

Here is something to always remember: don't pile the paperwork, shift it!  To where, you might ask: TO FOLDERS.  Start by having a few folders, for example: one for very important items that need immediate attention (e.g. assignments that must be completed either today or tomorrow), one for receipts, one for invoices, one for correspondence, etc. (The choice of these folder categories depends on the nature of business you are involved in.)  Set aside some time to re-allocate the piles of papers and incoming mail to these folders: you will need at least 1 hour a day if the paper problem is significant, or about 2 hours a week.  The time you require for this task will depend on the amount of paperwork you regularly face.  Whatever time you set aside for this task, be consistent every day (or every week).  It is a guarantee that the more organized you become, the easier it will be to work in your office.  The days of wasting valuable minutes (or longer) sifting through mountains of papers to find that one item you really need to work on right now are about to be history for you.
